Driver Charged After Boxes Spilled Onto Highway and Caused Fatal Police Crash

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced charges against Raymond Eugene Sanders in connection with the Oct. 4, 2023 death of Manhattan Beach Police Officer Chad Swanson. Sanders, 68, is charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, a misdemeanor, per apress releasefrom the district attorney’s office.

The collision happened shortly after midnight on June 20, 2023, after Johnson drove his BMW 3 Series at speeds approaching 100 mph and “overtook a vehicle” in Marcham, Oxfordshire, with passengers Ethan Goddard and Daniel Hancock, both 18, and Elliot Pullen, 17, in tow.

The Tesla carrying four people crashed into a tree in Piedmont, Calif., on Nov. 27 and killed the driver and two of the passengers, police previously said. A fourth person was injured as a result of the collision.
