New details have emerged about the victims ofHurricane Helene, which made landfall as a Category 4 storm late on Thursday, Sept. 26.
Among those killed in the storm include first responder Vernon “Leon” Davis, an assistant chief with the Blackshear Fire Department, who had been responding to calls and helping to clear out downed trees and power lines when a tree fell on his truck around 1:30 a.

A 4-year-old girl survived a fall from a 10th-floor apartment window on Chicago’s South Side, authorities said.
The child fell from the Spring Grove Apartments, a 13-story building in the 4500 block of South Drexel Boulevard in Bronzeville on Tuesday, March 11, shortly before 11 a.m. local time, the Chicago Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE in a statement.
The victim, who has not been identified at this time, suffered a head injury and was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in fair condition, police said.
