At least six people — including a mother and her 9-year-old son — were injured after a taxi crashed into a New York City sidewalk on Christmas Day, according to authorities.
The New York Police Department said in a statement to PEOPLE that officers responded to a call of “pedestrians struck” just after 4 p.m. local time on a sidewalk on Sixth Avenue near Herald Square, a popular tourist destination during the holidays that is steps away from Macy’s.

Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office learned about the 5½-month-old on Sunday, Dec. 29, after responding to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in regards to a report from Child Protective Services of suspected child abuse, apress releasefrom the department states.
The press release states that an investigation was launched into the incident that included a court-ordered search of the child’s home and “multiple interviews of potential witnesses and suspects” that resulted in “inconsistent accounts of how the infant victim sustained her injuries.

Help arrived quickly after from a familiar face: emergency medical technician (EMT) Ruben Torres. The paramedic, who’s also a full-time Worcester firefighter, toldWCVB 5 Bostonthat Caisesy was one of his EMS instructors when he was training to join the Worcester Fire Department.
“I wasn’t expecting to have her in the ambulance. It was super nerve-wracking,” Alvarez told WCVB-5 Boston.
