A parent died after being found unresponsive outside an elementary school in Iowa during afternoon pick-up, authorities said.
Two volunteer members of the town’s fire department, who were also in line to pick up children at the school, quickly responded, according to the outlets. The first responders attempted life-saving measures, but were unable to save the parent.
A representative with Southeast Polk Community School District confirmed the parent’s death in an email to PEOPLE.

A couple accused of starving their 4-year-old son to death over the course of two years in Harlem, New York City, and keeping their children in a feces-covered apartment, are facing murder charges.
On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. confirmed Nytavia Ragsdale, 26, and Laron Modlin, 25, had been indicted after their son Jah’Meik Modlin died at around 5:50 a.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Meckler, a New York City local, recalls how her parents found the dress at the Pucci store in Woodbury Commons Premium Outlets in New York. They sent her a photo and called to say, “We found your wedding dress.” At that time, Meckler and her now-husband, Jordan Cohen, were less than two years into their relationship and not yet thinking about a wedding.

According to the complaint, the area where the incident occurred is a well-known pedestrian crossing. Rodriguez’s family alleged that “at no point was there any fencing or other barriers preventing Sergio and others from crossing at the location where the incident occurred.”
“Upon information and belief, Defendants failed to sound their horn prior to the train striking and ultimately killing Sergio, in direct violation of both state and federal regulations,” according to the complaint.
