15-Year-Old Girl in Medically Induced Coma After Suffering 'Extreme Brain Injury' in 'Car Surfing' Accident

A teenage girl has been left severely injured after a “car surfing” accident in Utah.
According to the outlet, Ava was originally meant to be walking in the homecoming parade on Sept. 11, but it had been “canceled because of the bad air quality,” the victim’s mother, Kandis George, said.
“These kids were all ready to go out and have a good time,” she told the outlet, adding that they’d given the “trend” a go.

“She had an extreme brain injury and she needed to be rushed into brain surgery and it was a life-or-death surgery,” Kandis said of her daughter being taken to Primary Children’s Hospital, according to the outlet.
“She is in a medical induced coma, just staying stable, letting her brain rest,” Kandis added.
AGoFundMepage set up to help Ava’s family financially amid the tragedy described the victim as “a bright and spirited young girl who is facing the toughest challenge of her life.”
“What was meant to be a moment of fun has now left Ava in a hospital gown, with half her head shaved, fighting to recover,” the message added.

“Before this accident, Ava was looking forward to performing with her dance team at the homecoming football game and attending the homecoming dance in a beautiful white dress she had just picked out. Now, instead of those joyful experiences, she faces a long road to recovery, where she will need to relearn basic skills like walking, talking, and even simple tasks like tying her shoes,” the description continued.
The GoFundMe page has raised over $6,000 so far.
“The most horrible thing,” Kandis shared of the accident, per the outlet. “I don’t wish it on anybody. My heart is broken into a million pieces. She is such a vibrant girl.”
