Two people, including a teenager, were killed and five others were injured after a mobile home collapsed just outside Angleton, Texas.
The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said onsocial mediathe “manufactured” home collapsed at around 5 p.m. local time on Sunday, Sept. 22, while it was “in the process of being leveled.”
Several members of the family who were “working on the home” reportedly were “trapped beneath the structure,” according to police.
First responders arrived at the home and attempted to rescue the family members who were trapped beneath the structure using chainsaws and axes. Four people were airlifted to the hospital, while another was transported to the hospital, according to reports from local CBS affiliateKHOU 11,Fox 26 Houstonand theBradenton Herald.
Police noted that a minor and an adult were confirmed to have been deceased, while four others were transported to the hospital. The police have not confirmed any information on the ages or identities of the people involved in the collapse.
The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
According to KHOU 11, a 17-year-old boy and 31-year-old man were killed, while three other teenagers and two adults were transported to the hospital following the incident.
As of Monday, Sept. 23, a 15-year-old boy was reportedly in critical condition, while two other teens between the ages of 15-16 were stable, per the outlet. One 38-year-old woman was also in stable condition, while another 42-year-old male was released.
The family had been trying to level the assembled home using jacks and other equipment when it collapsed, according to KHOU 11 and Fox 26 Houston. The sheriff’s office told the outlets that some of the jack equipment the family was using may have failed.
Brazosport Independent School District, where the 17-year-old attended school, issued a statement to Fox 26 Houston.

Police told the outlets that the incident is still under investigation. They also noted that they believed the incident was accidental and no criminal activity was involved.
