The 2025 Oscars are fast approaching, and this year’s class of nominees have been unveiled.

Fernanda Torres scored Brazil’s second Oscar nomination for acting on Thursday for her performance inI’m Still Here, which also scored a surprise Best Picture nomination. Over 25 years ago, Fernanda Montenegro, her mother, was the first Brazilian actress to be nominated in the category for her role in 1998’sCentral Station.

In herGolden Globes speech, Torres honored her mother after winning best dramatic movie actress.

“And this is proof that art can endure through life, even in difficult moments,” Torres added of her win, saying thatI’m Still Hereis “a film that helped us to think how to survive in tough times.”
