More than 2.4 million cases ofMadeGood Granola Barshave been recalled across the U.S. due to the possibility that they may “contain metal pieces,” according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The company that makes the bars, Riverside Natural Foods Inc., initially issued the recall on “certain batches of MadeGood granola bars” on Dec. 9, 2024 — which was shared on the FDAwebsite.
On Feb. 11, the FDA updated its recall details, classifying the recall as “Class II,” meaning that if it is consumed, it could “cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” according to itswebsite.
The recall affects several different flavors of the granola bars made between January and November 2024, including: Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, Mixed Berry Granola Bars, Strawberry Granola Bars, Cookies & Crème Granola Bars, Chocolate Banana Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble Granola Bars and Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla Granola Bars.

The company said on itswebsitethat they received “seven complaints” of customers finding a piece of metal in their product out of “the hundreds of millions of bars sold,” and no injuries have yet to be reported. The company said they issued the recall as a “precautionary measure” for the “safety of our consumers.”
Riverside Natural Foods Inc. said that it “identified the source of the issue in the manufacturing process” during an “extensive investigation” at the place where the recalled products were manufactured. The company noted that it “remediated the issue” and tested “new processes” to “ensure that any future risk is fully mitigated.”

“The company is conducting the voluntary recall with the knowledge of regulatory authorities and working closely with retailers for the removal of recalled products from store shelves,” the company said in a statement on the FDA’s website.
It asked customers who purchased the MadeGood Granola Bars — which can come in packs of six, 12, 30 and 40, as well as variety packs — to return the product to the store where they purchased it from so they can receive a full refund.
MadeGooddescribestheir bars as an organic, gluten-free and kosher parve snack alternative that is free from the top nine allergens, including, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, dairy, egg, sesame, fish, shellfish, wheat and gluten.
It noted on itsFAQthat they work “to minimize heavy metal traces to safe levels” in their products. Despite the fact that “heavy metals are found everywhere in the environment,” including the soil, water and air, they said that they work with suppliers to “evaluate the risk of heavy metals through a risk assessment” and “regularly” test their snacks for “traces of heavy metals through an independent, accredited third-party laboratory.”
