Three people are dead and five others are injured after a “social gathering” in Chicago on Monday, authorities say.
Officers from the Chicago Police Department responded to a call about a person shot at the 3500 block of West 59th Street at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Dec. 2, said Chief of Police Jon P. Hein during apress conference.
Upon their arrival, officers requested medical services after discovering that eight individuals, described as four males and four females, had been shot.
According to Hein, all individuals were 20 to 35 years old and were at the location for what “appeared to be a social gathering.” The three deceased individuals were male, said Hein.
In a press release shared with PEOPLE, the Chicago Police Department said one of the deceased males was an adult who sustained gunshot wounds “to the head, chest, right thigh, and right wrist” and died at the hospital.

The two others sustained “multiple gunshot wounds to the body” and were pronounced dead at the scene.
While Hein said it is too early to know of a motive, he confirmed during Monday’s press conference that “there have been calls of service at this residence.” He vowed that the department would find the individual or individuals responsible for the “heinous, terrible incident.”
