A 4-year-old girl survived a fall from a 10th-floor apartment window on Chicago’s South Side, authorities said.
The child fell from the Spring Grove Apartments, a 13-story building in the 4500 block of South Drexel Boulevard in Bronzeville on Tuesday, March 11, shortly before 11 a.m. local time, the Chicago Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE in a statement.
The victim, who has not been identified at this time, suffered a head injury and was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in fair condition, police said. No other injuries were reported.
No further information regarding her condition was available.
A resident in the building told the outlet that the apartment windows tend to be difficult to open, but she is aware of the potential risk for small children.

“I make sure they don’t go towards the window because it’s scary living in a high-rise building and you got kids and they like to be curious and it’s kind of scary,” the woman told WGN.
In July 2022, a 3-year-old boydied after fallingfrom the Lake View Towers Apartments, located in the Uptown area on the city’s Far North Side.
The toddler was inside a residence on the 18th floor of a building in the 4500 block of N. Clarendon around 7 p.m. on July 19 “when he fell through a screen window onto a parking garage below,” the Chicago Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE at the time.
The boy was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital but did not survive.
