It’s always sunny at Abbott Elementary!
The highly anticipated crossover episode betweenAbbott ElementaryandIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiais almost here and PEOPLE has the exclusive first look!
The episode, titled “Volunteers,” airs Wednesday, Jan. 8 and fans will see Ava (Janelle James) announce that the school district is sending over a group of volunteers to help at Abbott. Despite the extra hands, when the volunteers arrive, things “don’t go as planned,” according to the episode’s official log line.
“Welcome to Abbott Elementary, the best elementary school in the universe!” Janine (Quinta Brunson) says excitedly while making introductions.

The camera then pans to theIt’s Always Sunnygang. As Frank (Danny DeVito) enthusiastically puts on his lanyard, the rest of the crew looks around the facilities.
While it’s clear the teachers and the volunteers will have their differences, some of them aren’t afraid to mingle.

“Let me know if there’s anything you need, and I meananything,” Mac (Rob McElhenney) teases after cornering an unenthusiastic Ava in the teacher’s lounge.
Mac may have love on his mind, but Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) and Frank have their fists up as they butt heads.
“You’re trash you know that?” Mr. Johnson says as Frank defiantly replies, “Coming from the sheriff of trash!”

After months of teasing about a potentialAbbott Elementarycrossover,It’s Always Sunnystar and creator, McElhenney confirmed that the long-running series would be joining forces with the Emmy award-winning comedy about teachers for an episode.
In early October, McElhenney shared a photo featuring him posing withCharlie Dayand Brunson in front of the iconicAbbott Elementaryschool and gave fans a sneak peek into what was coming onsocial media.
“Oh. Hello,” he captioned the post.
The same month, DeVito told PEOPLE that fans can expect “lots of surprises" in the highly anticipated crossover episode.
“I think we get a little wild in the show for them, but they’re handling us pretty well,” he laughed adding, “We had a great time. They’re wonderful people. It’s such an odd mix, so it’s going to be fun.”

At the EMA Awards Gala on Oct. 26,Brunson teasedthat the two casts let loose in the episode. In fact, she said her mom’s “not going to be allowed to watch.”
The crossover episode premieres Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
