“They’ve been head over heels from the start,” a source told PEOPLE. “Their families are thrilled.”

Allen made their relationshipInstagram officialin July 2024, postingromantic photosof the couple in Paris and spending time with his family.

Earlier that year, a source told PEOPLE that the pair were getting “serious” and that Steinfeld would “love to settle down if it’s with the right guy.”

They started dating in early 2023

Allen and Steinfeld were first seen together in late May 2023, when they enjoyed a date night in N.Y.C. Throughout the week, the couple werespotted a handful of timesin the city, with a source confirming to PEOPLE that they had been “hanging out for a few weeks.”

“It’s new, but they are having fun,” the source said at the time.

They were coy about their relationship to start

Though the football star and actress were spotted together on numerous occasions throughout 2023, neither addressed their relationship publicly or confirmed they were dating. When asked about headlines of him “making out” with Steinfeld during an August 2023 appearance on thePardon My Take, Allen admitted that the public attention on his dating lifecreated a sense of “insecurity” for him.

“The fact that anybody cares about that still blows my mind,” the Bills player said.

Months later, Steinfeld also dodged questions about her relationship at the 2024 Golden Globes but did hint that she was seeing Allen when a reporter asked how she was feeling about the night while holding up a Bills jersey.

“Real good,” she replied before walking away. Steinfeld then turned around and called out, “Wrong number though!”

That same evening, a reporter fromE! Newsasked theSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseactress, “What is it about a sportsy man?”

“Listen, what isn’t it about? Come on now,” she replied.

They traveled together during Allen’s off-season

After the Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in January 2024, ending their 2023-2024 season, Allen and Steinfeld took time to travel together, hitting spots from Laguna Niguel, Calif., to Paris.

The two were spotted together in March 2024 during Paris Fashion Week on romantic date nights — which included an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction. On one of the evenings, fans noticed that Allen was quick to disappear into a hotel after stepping out of a car while Steinfeld took photos with fans. Allen explained his quick getaway the following day onX(formerly Twitter), sharing that hispants had rippedearlier in the night.

“My pants ripped at dinner 🙁🤣 Didn’t want cheeks out… I love Paris 😁,” he wrote.

The following night, Allen and Steinfeld stepped out for the Miu Miu afterparty in complementary khaki outfits after attending the designer’s show earlier in the day.

Steinfeld is close to Allen’s family

In October 2023, Steinfeld spent time with Allen’s mom, Lavonne, as the two shopped at the Leveled Up Buffalo shop in East Aurora, New York, where they picked up some Bills merchandise.

When Allen first confirmed his relationship on Instagram, he included photos of Steinfeld spending time with his family, including his mom, at a celebration.

“I’m the brother of the mother, and I think it’s going to be a boy,” Allen guessed.

“I’m kinda feeling like it’s going to be a boy too," Steinfeld added.

Steinfeld has supported Allen at his football games

Throughout her relationship with Allen, Steinfeld has attended a vast majority of his NFL games alongside his friends and family.

Though she doesn’t post from the stadium herself, Steinfeld has been seen cheering on the sidelines and has occasionally even brought her own family members along, including her brother Griffin in an October 2024 game, perSports Illustrated.

Steinfeld continued to support her fiancé’s career as the 2024-2025 season came to an end in February 2025, cheering him on when he was named MVP at the NFL Honors. The couplemade their red carpet debutahead of the evening’s festivities.

Sharing a photo of Allen accepting the award at the event onInstagram, she wrote, “That’s MVP Josh Allento you! 👑.”

They have gifted each other some unique presents

In an October 2024 rendition of her newsletter,Beau Society, Steinfeld reflected on theunique Christmas presentsshe and Allen gifted each other in 2023: knives. Coincidentally, the two got each other the same gift but in different colors, which she wrote was apparently a “bad omen.”

“After we exchanged our knives lol, he told me there’s an old wive’s tale that if you gift your significant other a knife you have to pay for it, otherwise it signifies the severing of a relationship,” she wrote, perSports Illustrated. “So we exchanged quarters so we didn’t have that bad omen.”

The gift came from their mutual love of cooking, and, after ensuring that no bad luck would come to pass, Steinfeld wrote that she loved using her new cooking tool.

“Anyway, oh my God, I love this knife! I don’t know much about a chef’s knife but it is just so nice and makes me feel official,” she said.

Steinfeld and Allen got engaged in November 2024

The couplegot engagedon Nov. 22, 2024, and shared the news on Instagram a week later. With the ocean in the background, Allen proposed to Steinfeld in front of a flower arch and among dozens of candles.

A few months later, Steinfeld toldWho What Wearthat her Allen’s proposal was a surprise, sharing more details from the day.

“We were in Malibu, which is my happy place, and it was magical. That’s the word,” she told the outlet in February 2025.

She added, “I’m so gratefulthat he did it the way he did so that I looked good, and we have these photos that we’ll have and cherish for the rest of our lives that I’m not looking at being like, ‘What was I wearing?’ "
