The “Lose You To Love Me” singer and the music producer started dating in June 2023 and confirmed their romance that December, when she commented on a fan page’s Instagram post that he was the “best thing that’s ever happened to me.” One year later, Blancopopped the question to Gomezduring a romantic picnic. The actress’s engagement ring features a marquise diamond set on an eternity band.

After news of the proposal broke, a source told PEOPLE that “it was a total surprise” for theWizards of Waverly Placealum.

“It was veryher,” the source said. “Benny and Selena were so excited to share the news right away with their loved ones. It’s such a true partnership between them.”

A few months earlier, during a May 2024 appearance onTheHoward Stern Show, Blanco had discussed the idea of marriage and said that although he didn’t have a ring at the time, he didn’t “know a world where itcould be better than this.”

“People always said this to me, when you know you meet your best friend, she truly is my best friend," Blanco continued.

Gomez’s oval-shaped ring features a large marquise diamond and is set on an eternity band.

According to Ann Grimmett, Jared expert and VP of Merchandising at Jared Jewelers, the diamond is estimated to be 6 carats.

“Selena Gomez’s engagement ring is fitting for a talent as rare as hers given less than 5% of diamonds are marquise," Grimmett said in a press release following their engagement. “The shape represents that what’s old is new again, with a history dating back to the 18th century, but also represents the trend to elongated fancies that we have seen growing rapidly over the past few years.”

Marrow Fine’s Jillian Sassone also shared that marquise diamonds are “traditionally associated with royalty.”

“They’re also incredibly versatile — whether set north-south or east-west, marquise diamonds look stunning in both prong and bezel settings,” she said.

The ring is estimated to cost around $225,000

With such a large center stone, it’s no surprise that Gomez’s sparkler comes with a hefty price tag. According to Grimmett, “considering the large center in an eternity setting,” the ring is estimated to be valued at $225,000.

Gomez has always dreamed of a marquise diamond

During a February 2025 conversation withInterviewmagazine, Gomez shared that she has “always dreamed” of a marquise ring, ever since her “Good For You” days. Many fans believed the ring to be a nod to Gomez’s hit 2015 song in which she sings, “I’m a marquise diamond.”

Blanco added that Gomez “changed her mind halfway through” about what kind of design she wanted.

At first, the ring was meant to have “huge baguettes on the side,” until Gomez decided she didn’t want something “that big,” Blanco recalled.

Now, he plans to repurpose the extra baguettes to make earrings. “She basicallyhas three wedding rings,” Blanco said.

Blanco proposed to Gomez on Dec. 11, 2024, during a picnic that included a box of Taco Bell, known to be one of the “Single Soon"singer’s favorite foods.

Blanco toldInterviewmagazine that it was “the sickest surprise that she had no idea about.”

“It couldn’t have come at a better time because I was starting to f— up,” he said. “The thing that makes me so crazy is, you’re getting engaged, and right before, they’re like, ‘Show me how good of a liar you are. Sneak around and try to do this perfect thing without me knowing.’ "

He continued, “At the end, she was starting to get upset because she was like, ‘Why aren’t you coming home tonight?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I’m just at my friends.’ I almost did it early. But I nailed it, I think.”

The Rare Beauty founder announced her engagement on herInstagramwith a carousel of photos that included a close-up of the ring, writing, “Forever begins now…”

“hey wait … that’s my wife,” Blanco commented.

“I genuinely love everything about them,” Gomez shared, referencing Short and costarSteve Martin. “I hope they do plan my wedding.”
