“I’m not really a fan of love triangles. I’m just not,” Yarros assured her fans. “Doesn’t mean I’m not going to make them work for it, though.”

And after the former enemies became lovers, some fans have wondered if they could go back to being at-odds.

“I think you should readOnyx Storm, see where we leave off, kind of go from there,” Yarros teased. “But you never know. You’ve got [a romantic arc] across five books.”

Yarros also promised more chapters from Xaden’s point of view, adding, “I usually write one chapter in Xaden’s point of view per book … and then sometimes there’s bonus chapters.”

And while Yarros remained tight-lipped about spoilers for the next installment inThe Empyreanseries, there was one thing she could guarantee — a cliffhanger ending.

“That’s a definite. I love it,” Yarros said. “I picture them. I already know what it is before I start the book and I drive for it with glee.”

Yarros noted theOnyx Storm’s ending might be out of the ordinary.

“I did something a little different — not to give any spoilers away — with the ending ofOnyx Stormthat I fought really hard for and I’m proud of,” she said. “Yeah, you can blame me. 100% blame me.”

Onyx Storm is the third book of five in the fantasy series, which Yarros says is completely plotted out.

“They’re plotted but I haven’t started [the next one],” the author added. “I’m taking a little bit of a break to rest and recuperate. I’ve been on deadline for two and a half years, and I just want to make sure my body and my mind are healthy before I start writing the next books. But don’t worry, they’re coming. They’re all plotted.”
