Other people in the room could be heard gasping after she read the comment, and the Grammy-nominated star added, “Honestly, who cares? That’s a f—in' hater, like, who’s bored with their life.”

A screen recording from the live stream quickly spread online, prompting Rexha to respond with afront-facing video shared to Instagram Stories. “I just got back from Dubai. I did an amazing charity event. It was so beautiful,” she said, noting that it’d been a “very long time” since her last live chat.

“Number one, I am unbothered. Number two, I’m very aware of everything. I know I gained weight. I know that I’ve been through a lot. I know that people know my songs but don’t know me, and I haven’t gotten the recognition I’ve deserved,” continued Rexha.

“But instead of letting that all break me down, it’s actually made me feel more powerful,” she declared. “I’ve been working on new music, and I’ve been putting it into my music.”

In aMay 2024 interview with PEOPLE, the “Meant to Be” performer opened up about feeling “confident” and “comfortable” as she entered a “new chapter” of music.

“I’ve gone through so much in the past X amount of years that people don’t know about, and I feel like I finally have now come to peace with a lot of things. I finally feel excited and alive,” she said.

At the time, Rexha also spoke about undergoing “a lot of therapy” following a breakup and working on her physical fitness. “I’ve been working out a lot and trying to do things that are better for me, things that make me happy,” she said.

“You feel so much sexier and better when clothes fit better, and you just feel happier,” added Rexha, who was photographedcozying up with boyfriend Simos Liakosduring an August 2024 trip to Italy.
