The police officer, identified as Officer Kenney Merenda, lost control of his bike and it skidded into those along the parade route at approximately 6 p.m. local time on Saturday, Dec. 7,according to a statement from Palm Springs City Government.
Merenda and nine others suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The California Highway Patrol is now investigating the accident, theLos Angeles Timesreported.
Witnesses described seeing Merenda pop a wheelie, but Palm Springs public information officer Kitty Alvarado toldtheDesert Sunthat the reports were “a rumor.”

After the accident, the parade — which draws an estimated 100,000 to the area each year — continued, the outlets reported.
On Sunday, Dec. 8, Palm Springs Chief of Police Andy Millsshared on Facebookthat he and other city leaders visited Merenda in the hospital and that the officer “will likely recover mobility in his hand.”
“Kenny expressed deep concern for all of those injured and wishes them a full and speedy recovery,” Mills said.
He added that two other victims were still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
