Carrie Coonwants to clarify something about her marriage to husbandTracy Letts.
The moment occurred whenThe White Lotusstar revealed that she and Letts have open conversations about who they’re attracted to outside of their marriage.
“It’s nice to be in a relationship where we can always talk about, ‘Well who are you attracted to on set?’” she explained. “It’s so fun.”
She added that Letts “notices every single woman on the street, and he always tells me who he has a crush on. It’s fun. It’s interesting to know what your partner is into. It’s titillating.”
WhenMaron, 61, asked if it ever crosses a line, Coon said: “We don’t really like lines. Lines are really boring. Life is short. Finite!”
She also acknowledged that because Letts experienced the death of a partner, he “understood from a very young age that, because he went through it, that he would never begrudge anyone a human experience,” she said. “He embraced being a person of appetites and acknowledging we have these proclivities.”
She added, “Monogamy is sort of something we’ve imposed on ourselves through, you know, we were supposed to have babies and die when we were like 30. And that’s not the way life is anymore. I think you have to stay, you’ve got to be open-minded about what is, what makes you feel, what engages you in the world and what sparks your imagination and where your passion is.”
Coon and Letts, a playwright, tied the knot in 2013 and share son Haskell, 6, and a 3-year-old daughter. The actress told Maron that “if you’re willing to stay open to” evolving in a relationship “then you’re living a more full life.”
“And I don’t think either one of us would want to keep the other from living,” she continued.

During the conversation,The Gilded Agestar shared insight into their home life, saying their kids “are being raised in this like incredibly even keel [home], like there’s nothing volatile in my house.”
“Tracy and I are both, you know, we’re both in recovery,” Coon said. “We both have done a lot of like AA, Al-Anon therapy. We have a lot of that language in our house.”
She praised Letts for taking care of the kids for six months while she filmed season 3 ofThe White Lotusin Thailand.

“There’s a bit more taking turns now,” Coon said to Maron. “We just don’t want to like, there’s a version of life where you take your kids all over the world and just like plunge them wherever you are. Yeah, and I kind of always thought we might be those people. When my son, my son all the way up until the pandemic, when he was 2, he’d been all over with us all around the world and on sets. And then the pandemic hit, and then we found out maybe he’s like not that kind of kid.”
Coon learned that Haskell “really likes his routine” and “he loves his school. And we just don’t feel good taking him out,” she continued.

Coon stars as Laurie, a vacationer staying in Thailand with her besties, in the current season ofThe White Lotus.
“She’s not that far from me,” Coon said of her character. “Like, I feel like the script is contemporary and accessible. Yeah. And so there’s not, it’s not likeThe Gilded Age, right? It’s not like there’s a dialect and a corset or anything.”
