Chelsea Handleris gearing up for her most iconicswimsuit ski runyet.
Handler, an avid skier who spends her winters at Whistler Mountain in British Columbia, Canada, has a long-standing tradition of hitting the slopes in her bikini for her birthday.
“Anyone who knows me knows how much I love skiing and they know how much I love skiing in my bathing suit. I am very obviously into moisturizer because of that,” the comedian tells PEOPLE. “I’ve been usingGold Bond Healing Hydrating Lotionfor a long time because I am all about not having dry skin.”
She adds, “Even when you’re covered up, you have to always lubricate and moisturize. There is no bigger ick to me than dry skin.”

“When I’m not on camera or getting my hair and makeup done, I am a minimalist,” she says. “I don’t like to put on a lot of makeup. I just want to look like I’ve been sleeping. That’s my goal in life — to look well-rested.”

As she enters a new decade, Handler’s priorities have shifted in multiple ways.
While promoting her new bookI’ll Have What She’s Having(which is now officially aNew York Timesbest-seller) the comedian explained why she skis in a bikini every year onThe Jamie Kern Lima Show. She refers to the experience as “freeing,” explaining that “[it’s] the essence of who I am.”
Handler also aims to reclaim her confidence, recalling obsessive behaviors around herbody imagein her 20s such as weighing herself “15 times a day” and exercising excessively.
“Such a waste,” she called that time in her life, saying, “I’ve wasted so many hours [thinking] about my body image.”

In her 50s, Handler is approaching her beauty routine with a similar philosophy.“I’m not trying to look like I’m in my 20s when I’m 50, but I do want to look the best version of me,” she tells PEOPLE. “And I’ve come to terms with the idea that aging is not a bad thing, aging is a beautiful thing. It can be very sexy and it can be very vibrant as long as you’re not fighting it and resisting it and holding onto youth very tightly. That’s a losing game.”
She adds, “It’s much sexier to embody who you are and meet the moment of where you are. That’s what I try to do.”
