The incident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 11, theGuilford County Sheriff’s Office(GCSO) said in a Facebook post. The office further noted that it received a 911 call around 9:12 a.m. local time for a water rescue at Golf House Road West in Whitsett, N.C.
“Upon arrival,” the GCSO said in its statement, “emergency responders located a child in the water. The child was immediately transported to a local hospital and later succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident.”
The GCSO added that two first responders and three civilians who took part in the rescue were also taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.

The Whitsett Fire Department, McLeansville Fire Department, Greensboro Fire Department, Guilford County Fire Department and the Guilford County Emergency Services assisted the GCSO in the rescue.
The child has not been identified and their age has not been disclosed. The GCSO added that the investigation is ongoing.
Neighbors toldFOX affiliate WGHPthat the child had been sledding on a golf course with other kids when the child found themselves in the water.
