Deer Spotted with Hole in Its Cheek: 'Anyone Know How to Help Her?' (Exclusive)

Sometimes nature works in funny ways.

TikTok userMaggie Berryfound adeer with a hole in its cheekand took to the app to try and find a way to help the animal.

The deer, which Berry says was located in Oklahoma, was seen munching on some vegetation in a wooded area, though every bite was quickly expelled through the gaping hole.

“Anyone know how to help her?😢😢” the caption reads, coupled with a series of broken heart emojis.

“Commenters had lots of suggestions,” she says. “Many suggested organizations to call, such as wildlife resources. Others told me not to call anyone and to let nature run its course, or that there was ultimately nothing that could be done for the deer.”

“Deer are insanely tough. She will most likely be okay,” one commenter wrote. “I’ve seen deer live through things no animal should be capable of living through.”

“I can just imagine.. ‘no matter how much I eat I’m always hungry’ ☹️” another shared.

“I ended up calling my local wildlife resource center which advised me to let the deer be, as deer are resilient and trying to catch the deer may result in capture myopathy (fatality),” she tells PEOPLE.

Though the recommendation is to leave her be for fear of causing more harm than good, Berry says she’s continuing to monitor the doe and the situation.

“I have been keeping an eye out for her and after a few weeks, I found her near the spot I first saw her. She was eating some pumpkin,” she says to PEOPLE.

Berry has also promised all of her new followers that she will continue to monitor the doe whenever she can to ensure it’s maintaining its weight.
