The team’s official Instagram account shared videos and photos from their relatable journey as the NBA players hopped on the 3 train line. “NYC Marathon took us on a detour…” anInstagramvideo’s caption read.
The clip panned around the team on their way among other straphangers and followed the athletes eventually exiting the train, having to duck below the subway’s threshold.
Anotherpostfeatured the team huddled on subway benches “pulling up to Barclays Center New York-style.” The Pistons also shared a selfie while waiting on the subway platform onX(formerly Twitter).
The New York City Marathon, which had over 50,000 people from all over the world running this year,closed down many major avenuesthroughout the five boroughs, which likely affected the Pistons' planned route to their Brooklyn match-up.

The Pistons won the game 106-92 against the Nets, causing fans to call for the team to take public transit for all of their games. “Subway might need to become a pre game ritual 👀,“one fan posted.
“The Pistons are undefeated when they take the nyc subway,“another joked. “Pistons win Detroit needs a subway immediately,“a third said.

The Athleticpredicted in October that the Pistons, who are a historically poor-performing team, will “exceed expectations” this upcoming season. Theyhadn’t won a playoff game since 2008and only made the playoffs three times in the last 15 years.
The 3 train just might change that.
