“I’m acutely aware that I could go any day now. But I don’t know why, it doesn’t concern me,” he says. “I’m not afraid of it. I have that feeling totally against anything intellectual I have that I’m gonna be alright. I think I’m one of those lucky people who got to do for a living what I would’ve done anyway. When you think how lucky I am — I got to do what I do, play and act silly.”
At one point, Van Dyke and Martin sing together, with the former joking he’s “almost on key!” before showing off his he’s-still-got-it dance moves. He goes on to tell Martin that his favorite lyric of the song is the line, “Until I die, let me hold you if you cry.”
“So beautiful,” Van Dyke says.
At the video’s end, Van Dyke is asked to name any subject, and Martin is to use the topic as the basis of a song. The star chooses old age, and Martin begins playing on the piano.
“Old age, old age, old age, old age/You turn another page,” he sings. “All the love that I’ve been feeling/All the breakin’, all the healin’/All the things that I wish I’d done are right/All the days that I was dancin’, all the chances I was chancin’/But I’m still legendary Dick Van Dyke.”
