According to a Jan. 24releasefrom the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which handles all public prosecutions in England and Wales, Dumble “was a passenger in a car when the driver spotted a group of people walking home after celebrating a birthday in Hailsham, Sussex, in November 2023.”

“Dumble’s friend, who was driving, got out of the car and a fight started,” the release stated. It added that Dumble, who was disqualified from driving, “jumped into the driver’s seat and drove towards the fight to get his friend, who got into the car.”

“However, instead of leaving, Dumble drove forward, then reversed at speed. Jack Field and another man moved between parked vehicles, but Dumble reversed the car into those vehicles, knocking Jack to the ground and pinning the other man between the car he was driving and another car. Dumble continued to reverse, spinning one of the parked vehicles 90 degrees,” authorities added in the release.

“Witnesses told how Dumble then looked out of the open driver’s window before driving over Jack, who was lying on the ground, killing him instantly,” the CPS post confirmed.

Kyle Dumble, 27, of no fixed address, was convicted of murder, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and driving while disqualified and without insurance at Hove Trial Centre on Friday (24 January).

The victim’s mother, Jayne, called her son her “best friend and protector” in a statement read out in court on Monday, per the BBC.

“As a parent, all you want to do is protect your children and I couldn’t protect you this time,” she said, according to the outlet. “I will forever be grateful that you are my son.”

Dumble previously claimed “he did not intend to hit anyone” on the night of Field’s death, suggesting “there had been a fault with the vehicle,” the CPS said in its release.

“He will never be able to be replaced and has left a gaping hole which will never be filled but we will hold him in our hearts forever," they added, per the release.

“With his killer behind bars, I hope they now have the opportunity to mourn this tragedy in their own ways," he shared. “I would like to thank them for their strength and support during this long and complex investigation."

“I also commend the investigative team, witnesses and our partners for their determination to counter Kyle Dumble’s denials and ensure he has faced justice for his crimes,” Campbell concluded.
