Elizabeth Banksmay be known for her acting, producing and directional work, but behind the scenes, she’s a mother to two kids: Felix and Magnus.
The Emmy-nominated star welcomed her children with husband Max Handelman, whom she married in 2003. The longtime couple met on Banks’ first day of college in 1992 and celebrated their20th wedding anniversaryin 2023. Handelman and Banks' first son, Felix, arrived in 2011, and their second son, Magnus, was born the following year.
Although thePitch Perfectstar keeps her children out of the spotlight and does not share photos of their faces on social media, she is open about being aworking mother. In October 2023, she spoke to PEOPLE about her thoughts on juggling professional work and parenting.
“I’m not sure that balance is, there’s no balance achievable,” Banks said. “For me, what I’ve come to is letting go of guilt. It’s societal. But you let go of it. And I trust my husband. My husband — just being like, ‘You got it.’ ”

Banks and Handelman welcomed their first child, son Felix Handelman, in March 2011.
At the time, the proud new mother shared the exciting news with a blog post onher website, opening up about her struggles with fertility.
“The one true hurdle I’ve faced in life is that I have a broken belly,” she penned. “After years of trying to get pregnant, exploring the range of fertility treatments, all unsuccessful, our journey led us to gestational surrogacy.”
The actress and Handelman keep their children’s faces off of Instagram, but the mother of two does share the occasional Father’s Day tribute.
In June 2023, Banksposted a rare photoof her sons with their dad to honor the holiday. “Happy Father’s Day @maxhandelman thanks for letting me post this on social media so strangers could know we appreciate you. ❤️🏔️,” she captioned it.

Banks and Handelman welcomed their younger son, Magnus Handelman, in November 2012.
Banks also opened up about the steps she and her husband took toexpand their familyonce more.
“Like Felix, Magnus was born via gestational surrogate. This experience has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime,” the Brownstone Productions co-founder added.

Additionally, she expressed her gratitude to the Center For Surrogate Parenting for helping her complete her family. “I am also so very thankful to our family and friends for their support throughout this process,” Banks wrote.
In April 2013, she opened up toMarie Claireabout parenting and revealed what her average day looks like. “First of all, I have a home office. I have two kids, and it means I get to put them down for their naps and be the person they wake up to,” Banks said.
“When I’m actressing, which is my day job, and which I’m doing right now, I leave the house at 4:30 in the morning five days a week and I get home at 6, and hope to get two hours with them before they go to bed,” she continued. “So I’m slightly miserable about that.”
A decade later, Banksshared a rare photowith her boys on Instagram to celebrateMother’s Day2023. “My other two hearts. Most profound, inspiring, rewarding, relentless job and I am the luckiest person to be their mom,” she captioned the post. “Happy Mother’s Day to everyone helping to raise the future. ❤️❤️.”
