Fighter Jet Crash at Alaska Air Force Base Caught on Camera as Pilot Ejects at Last Minute

The moment a fighter jet crashed at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska has been caught on camera.

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Eielson Air Force Base shared in apress releasethat a  F-35 Lightning II jet crashed within the fence line of the base earlier that day at 12:49 p.m. local time.

The pilot reportedly ejected the aircraft before the crash.

“The pilot is safe and has been transported to Bassett Army Hospital for further evaluation. Emergency crews are responding,” per the release.

According to the outlet, the U.S. Military said the pilot ejected before the crash.

“Our people are our most important resource, and we are committed in ensuring their safety and security,” Colonel Paul Townsend, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, said in a statement, per the release.

He added, “I can assure you the United States Air Force will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident to minimize the chances of such occurrences from happening again.”

Officials have urged local traffic to “not stop on the Richardson Highway adjacent to Eielson AFB as this poses a safety risk and impedes recovery efforts.”

“Additionally, Federal Law prohibits photography along this stretch of highway,” the release concluded.
