A Florida woman who lost her engagement ring in a Target parking lot has the cherished item back thanks to a sheriff’s deputy who worked tirelessly to track it down.
Deputy Mitchell Spencer, with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, recovered Maggie Prescott’s ring after an “extensive three-week search” at the Target in Yulee, Fla., the sheriff’s office said in a post onFacebook.
It turns out that a young boy saw the ring on the ground and picked it up before giving it to his mom who then drove away — which the footage showed once Spencer was able to get approval to view the video from Target’s corporate office, Prescott said.
The oncology case manager had desperately called pawn shops and filed a police report, which led to Spencer taking on the case.
Once the sheriff’s deputy was able to view the footage, a name and address was matched with the woman whose son picked up the ring and the agency went to the home.

“She said she was keeping it safe and waiting for someone to call her about it,” Prescott said. “Deputy Spencer was nice enough to bring it to my work and everyone there was so happy for me.”
With a happy ending to the story, the law enforcement agency said that it was thrilled to have reunited the ring with its rightful owner.
“The incident highlights the important role of local law enforcement in resolving community issues,” the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office said. “It also serves as a heartwarming reminder of community spirit and the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.”
Prescott, who is set to wed next month, said she is grateful to the deputy — and to the woman and her son.
“Thank you to the selfless, kind, truthful individual that found the ring and kept it safe while we searched for her," Prescott wrote. “My faith in humanity is restored. There are amazing people out there and I’m so thankful I encountered so many of them during this process.”
