Gabrielle Unionhas been one to watch ever since she stepped on the scene in the ’90s. But lately fans have been making assumptions about her looks — and she’s ready to shut them down.

While speaking to PEOPLE at a meet-and-greet to promote the SimStyled experience — which she and longtime hairstylistLarry Simslaunched in partnership with JCPenney — in L.A. on Dec. 3, theBeing Mary Janeactress revealed the one classic hairstyle that will always help your face get a little lift.

“A high pony for a lady of a certain age is like a facelift,” the actress, 52, told PEOPLE exclusively.

“As much as what happens or doesn’t happen with my face is speculated, if you can’t be missing for six months to get a facelift — which I’ve never been missing for six months, get it right — the high pony is going to snatch you here,” she said in reference to the top of the head. “A pony here is going to snatch you here,” she motioned to the middle of the head. “And a low [pony], here,” she said motioning to the back of the neck.

“A high snatched pony is all you need — [and it] don’t cost you a thing,” she said.

Union shared that the updo was one of those Y2K looks she was glad was still in style. As for the one trend that should never come back, Union says holding on to your damaged hair is a big no-no.

“Something that shouldn’t come back: Using damaged hair asthething,” she stated. “You know what I mean? When your color is off and you’re like, ‘No, it was on purpose.’ No, it wasn’t. It wasn’t. Let’s bring healthy hair back and keep it here.”
