Green Dayis celebrating a huge milestone!
To honor the 20th anniversary of their revolutionary punk album,American Idiot, the band is releasing a deluxe edition of the record that includes unearthed demos and live performances, they announced on Friday, Aug. 9.
When the LP was first released in 2004, it marked a comeback for the rock group — following middling sales for their previous recordWarningin 2000.American Idiotshot Green Day back into the mainstream, spawning several career-defining hits including “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Holiday” and the album’s title track, and it garnered them their first seven Grammy nominations.
“In the summer of 2004, Green Day entered the studio with Rob Cavallo to createAmerican Idiot, uncertain of what the future held,” the triowrote on Instagramin their announcement of the upcoming release. “American Idiotwas crafted as a response to the daily bombardment of media that spreads it far and wide, making us desensitized and weary - filled with themes that still ring true today, even 20 years later.”

The anniversary release, which is out on Oct. 25, includes several different box sets, complete with new vinyls or CDs that include previously unreleased demos of fan-favorite tracks, as well as live recordings from a 2004 Green Day concert at Irving Plaza in New York City.
In addition to the new records, the release comes with a 110-minute documentary,20 Years of American Idiot, which features new interviews with members of the band and archival footage of old performances.
“Just saw Taylor Swift eras tour in Lyon France 🇫🇷!!” Armstrong wrote in an Instagram caption after the show. “Great production. Great voice. Great entertainer. Great songwriting. Crazy crowd.”
American Idiot (20th Anniversary) Deluxe Editionwill be released on Oct. 25.
