On Wednesday, March 12, the sister trio — featuring Este,DanielleandAlana Haim— released their first single in three years,“Relationships.”

In the time warp visual, Danielle falls in and out of love with theQueeractor, making out with him, laying with him on the floor, dancing together at a club and packing up boxes of her things to move out (and seemingly changing her mind at the end of the track).

“Relationships” is Haim’s first single since the release of their 2020 albumWomen in Music Pt. III.

In an interview withi-Don Wednesday, March 12, the group opened up about their new single, which reflects Danielle’s breakup with her longtime boyfriend, Ariel Rechtshaid.

The band revealed that their upcoming fourth album is the first they’ve done without him (he produced their previous projects).

“I’m a serial monogamist–in high school, I was always wanting a boyfriend and I didn’t have one. All I wanted was for someone to ask me to prom, and no one did,” Danielle told the outlet, adding: “Being single now, I’m just trying to embrace it, because I’m… I feel like I’m the age where I need to embrace it.”

According to Haim, the track was penned in 2017 and was originally meant for their 2020 LP.

For Danielle, there was “some weird thing in my head that was like ‘You need to finish this,'” she said of the song.

In the interview, Alana, 33, described the band’s forthcoming project as “the closest we’ve ever gotten to how we wanted to sound."
