Wendie Malickis revealing a sweet behind-the-scenes tidbit from theShrinkingset involving costarHarrison Ford.
“He lets me ride around in his little golf cart that says ‘Cowboy’ on it,” she said. “He always picks me up and takes me to the stage, which is very generous of him. But I have to say that he is just one of the loveliest, most generous and funny leading men I’ve ever had.”
Malick also said Ford acts as her personal sommelier, introducing her to some of the best wines, and making her mixed drinks like “really wonderful tequila cocktails.” Reflecting on when theIndiana Jonesstar was PEOPLE’sSexiest Man Alive in 1998, Malick adds that she understands why he is such a fan favorite.
“Harrison, I think the reason he’s had such lasting power, and it doesn’t matter if he’s getting older and a little wrinklier and gray-haired and stuff, it’s the little mischievous smile that he has in everything he does,” she said. “That little dry sense of humor, which is so irresistible, and he doesn’t take himself too seriously. I think there’s something so appealing about that.”
She continued, “He’s not one of those, ‘Hey…’, he’s just sort of like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t even know how I got here. Who knows?’”
Now, on the second season of the beloved series, Malick said she and Ford have “established a good rapport,” making it easier to play on-screen love interests.
“That pretty much happened right away, but then coming back last season was really interesting because we got a little bit into my backstory and we shifted in terms of our relationship when I no longer could be his doctor as we were seeing each other,” she explained, referring to her character Dr. Julie Baram, who develops a romantic relationship with Ford’s Dr. Paul Rhoades after he becomes her patient following a Parkinson’s diagnosis.
“What I love about this show is it mirrors what so many of us are going through, dealing with unexpected loss and challenges health-wise, and how you choose your family at a certain age,” she added. “It’s not so much the blood people as it is the friends you want in your life.”
She then joked: “So it was the easiest hair and makeup and wardrobe I ever had.”
