Nick and Charlie’s story is just getting started.
Thesecond season ofHeartstopper, whichpremiered in August 2023, includedmany romantic developmentsfor the students at Truham and Higgs, but there’s plenty more to be explored in the upcoming third season.
Netflix first announced the show’s renewal in May 2022, whenthey ordered the series for two more seasonsfollowing season 1.
“We were overjoyed with the global reaction toHeartstopperand can’t wait to continue the story with two more seasons,” series creator and writer Alice Oseman said in a statement at the time.
Based on Oseman’s graphic novels of the same name,Heartstopperfollows the unlikely friendship between high school teens Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor). But the pair soon realize that theremight be something more between them.
Though Netflix hasn’t announced too many details about the new season, Oseman’s graphic novels are a good indication of what’s to come.

Many of the main cast members will reprise their roles in the upcoming season, including Kit Connor as Nick; Joe Locke as Charlie; Yasmin Finney as Elle; William Gao as Tao; Yasmin Finney as Elle; Corinna Brown as Tara; Kizzy Edgell as Darcy; Tobie Donovan as Isaac and Rhea Norwood as Imogen.
Joining the cast for season 3 isBridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey, who plays Jack Maddox, a famous author and Charlie’s celebrity crush. Meanwhile, Sebastian Croft won’t return as Ben.
According to the official logline, “Charlie is eager to tell Nick that he loves him and Nick is holding on to something important he has to say to Charlie. As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realize that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges.”
Speaking to TUDUM in September 2024, Oseman said: “I’m so excited because it’s going to feel like a really different season. It would be easy to be like, ‘Oh, Heartstopper Season 3, let’s just do the same kind of thing that we’ve always done. People like it.’ But we are doing something that will feel very different, and people will be surprised, and I can’t wait.”
Netflix dropped the firstofficial trailerforHeartstopperseason 3 in September 2024.
In the two-and-a-half-minute clip, viewers see the friend group growing anxious as college looms and Charlie struggling with his mental health more than ever.
“I really love him,” a worried Nick says to his mom. To which she says, “Sometimes, people need more support than one person can give. You can be there for him, standing together, even when it’s hard. That’s love, darling.”
The trailer also teases a few intimate moments between Nick and Charlie, who are both eager to exchange the big three words: “I love you.”
The third season ofHeartstopperwill premiere on Oct. 3, 2024. There will be a total of eight episodes.

Though Netflix hasn’t greenlit the series for a fourth season, there is potential for the story to continue. In April 2023,Oseman announcedthat there will be a sixthHeartstoppergraphic novel, which will mark “the finalHeartstoppervolume.”
