Everyone plays a different role on Thanksgiving Day, between the hosts at the helm of the holiday and the guests who gather for the big feast — and this year in particular, thecosmos will bring an extra serving of energyto the table on Nov. 28.

“Everyone will be feeling fired up, excitable, and passionate to connect,” PEOPLE’s resident astrologer Kyle Thomas makes known. “This is because the sun will dance in a beautiful angle known as a trine with Mars on Nov. 27.”

Despite this astrological event happening the night before Turkey Day, Thomas says its effects will be felt in the days leading up to the holiday and afterward, too. Mercury, meanwhile, will be in retrograde beginning on Nov. 25.

“This could cause challenges or confusion around flights, international travel or even with relatives,” he predicts, noting that Sagittarius “rules all” of those themes in astrology. However, he says “it can help us to slow down, enjoy the present moment and reconnect with others” at the same time.

The moon will be in Scorpio on Thanksgiving, which Thomas says will make us feel decisive about everything. Emotions may run high, he puts forth, “especially if we want to feel deep connections with everyone” during the festivities.

Aries (March 21 to April 19)

Aries.

Whether you’re waiting for the feast to be served or you’re digesting to make room for pumpkin pie, pull out the games to pass the time away and have fun at the same time! Your energy will have those around you “eager” to gather around and play.

Plus, Thomas calls Aries “great team players,” too!

Taurus (April 20 to May 20)

Taurus.

Taurus, you are the foodie of the group! In astrology, Thomas says this zodiac sign “rules food” in addition to “gifts, possessions and resources.”

Gemini (May 21 to June 20)

Gemini.

You’re the one who will get the chatter going regardless if you know the person or not. “Their innate charm, wit and humor will have them making the rounds all day and night long,” he predicts.

Cancer (June 21 to July 22)

Cancer.

Cancer, you are the hostess with the mostess! This zodiac sign rules “home, domesticity and family” in astrology, according to Thomas, making them eager to “decorate, invite and entertain.”

He calls Cancer “gracious and giving hosts” who will take it upon themselves to make sure that everything is “prepared and ready to be enjoyed.” Their “compassionate and loving nature” makes the holidays extra sweet and warm!

Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)

Leo.

Leo, you’re most likely to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! This zodiac sign “likes to be entertained,” says Thomas.

Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)

Virgo.

Virgo, you’re most likely to offer a helping hand. You’re one of the “most helpful and productive” zodiac signs, according to Thomas.

“They are always eager to step in, whether it’s bringing a fabulous entrée or clean after the big feast,” he says. “Virgos find great pleasure in being able to nurture and help others, so they’ll step right up regardless of the situation.”

Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)

Libra.

Libra, you’re the mediator at the Thanksgiving Day table. This is an important role, of course, when it comes to family gatherings where drama-filled conversations may sizzle and soar!

“Add in politics, a bit of alcohol and different opinions and things can get very heated,” jokes Thomas. “Leave it to the zodiac’s master negotiator, a Libra, to calm any dispute or conflict,” he continues. “They will be able to diffuse tension before — or after — it begins.”

Scorpio (Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)

Scorpio.

While you’re eager to stand out from the crowd, Thomas says you don’t necessarily go out of your way to “court attention” in comparison to the other zodiac signs. Still, you’ll happily accept it… with a smile, too!

This is why no matter what, a Scorpio will show up and seek to be memorable. While they won’t simply try to “one up” other people for the sake of it, if there’s an opening to do so, they’ll do it with a smile.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)

Sagittarius.

Sagittarius, you’re most likely to be watching the football game! That’s because your zodiac sign brings out your inner “adrenaline junkie,” says Thomas.

Your Thanksgiving gathering is sure to be energy-filled as you rally the group to watch the games, cheer on their favorite teams and place bets on who will win. In fact, he says that Sagittarius are also “innately lucky” because of their planetary ruler Jupiter, so often they’ll see a “breakthrough.”

Capricorn (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)

Capricorn.

Capricorn, you’re the most traditional. When it comes to holiday festivities, who can complain about that?

“With their zodiac sign also being on the polarity of the past, family and domesticity, these Earth signs can seek to hold to their upbringing and long-term values,” explains Thomas, noting that Capricorns are often interested in “the past and heritage,” too.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)

Aquarius.

Aquarius, you are a friend to everyone! “This zodiac sign loves community,” says Thomas, and has a “natural knack for connecting with anyone regardless” if they’re strangers or a familiar face.

As a communicative Air sign, he says Aquarius “know how to look at many different perspectives.” They are also “very intellectual,” too, so they’ll know exactly what to say.

Pisces (Feb. 19 to March 20)

Pisces.

Pisces, you’re most likely to be the one who falls asleep early. According to Thomas, this zodiac sign “rules rest.”

Whether you’re stuffed from dinner or entertained too hard, he predicts Pisces to hit the hay before the night is over. This sign is also known to be “hypersensitive to people’s emotions,” he points out, “so they’ll likely pick up on the guests' vibes” throughout the celebration.
