Although his 10-year contract is one of the largest in the league, some have argued that Mahomes is underpaid compared to some other players' yearly earnings. However, Mahomes has said, for him, “it’s not about making a ton of money.”

“I’ve made enough money where I’ll be set for the rest of my life,” Mahomes said during a May 2023 press conference. “But at the same time, you’ve got to find that line where you’re making a good amount of money, but you’re still keeping a lot of great players around you so you can win these Super Bowls and you’re able to compete in these games.”

He echoed these sentiments while speaking toUSA Today Sportsin July 2024.

“I’m doing pretty well myself. For me, it’s just about going out there trying to win football games, trying to make money for my family at the end of the day,” he said. “I feel like I’m doing a great job of that.”

Mahomes also emphasized the trust he has in his agents, who find a balance between securing his earnings and maintaining a strong team around him.

“I think we do a great job of managing my money, to be able to pay me a lot of money and keep a good team around me,” the quarterback said. “It’s about having a good dialogue, good communication with the front office, with ownership. We’ve done that here. And as we’ve been able to allow me to be a highly-paid guy while at the same time build a great team around me.”
