East Lansing Interim Police Chief, Chad Pride, told local news outletWLNSthat discovering how and why the remains wound up in the freezer may prove difficult.
“We don’t believe this happened last night or within the last couple days. I believe this is something that happened further back,” Pride said. “My hope is we find something quickly that way the public can be at ease, family can be at ease, neighbors can be at ease.”
The Michigan residence has been marked with biohazard stickers since the discovery of the remains, WLNS reported.
Shaken neighbor Andrew Whitney told the outlet, “We were thinking last night, how many days have we been sleeping in bed near feet away from a corpse? Something violent and serious appears to have happened.”
The ELPD is urging members of the public who may have any information about the incident to contact them, directing tips to Detective Sgt. Nicole Mitchell at (517) 319-6876 or Detective Jason Cotton at (517) 319-6842.
