Jamie Foxxis “recovering” after getting stitches following a reported altercation at his birthday dinner.
AfterTMZreported that the 57-year-old Academy Award winner was allegedly involved in an altercation at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Friday, Dec. 13, a spokesperson for Foxx tells PEOPLE that the actor was hit with a glass during the birthday celebration.
“Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth," the spokesperson said. “He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.”
Mr. Chow did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for further information on Saturday, Dec. 14.

“Upon investigation, officers determined that the reported assault with a deadly weapon was unfounded,” authorities said. “Instead, the incident involved a physical altercation between parties.”
“The BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and completed a report documenting the battery. No arrests were made,” they added.
Foxx’s name was allegedly listed as part of an assault report taken of the incident, per TMZ.
The star — who just released his Netflix comedy specialJamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… —attended the gathering with his daughters Corinne and Anelise, as well as ex Kristin Grannis, per TMZ andThe Daily Mail.

Foxx’s birthday dinner comes just days after the actor and comedian celebrated the release of his Netflix special, which chronicles hismedical emergencythat began on April 11, 2023, and the complications that followed. In the special, Foxconfirmed that he suffered a strokethat almost killed him while on the Atlanta set ofBack in Action. He also cited a “brain bleed that led to a stroke.”
On Dec. 9, Foxx shared a “personal thank you” to fans and supporters in the form of a video onInstagram. “Just want to jump on and say thank you to everybody that prayed,” Foxx wrote in the caption. “It’s a blessing to be in the position that I’m in to be able to tell you my story in my way… I hope the jokes make you laugh and I hope the story inspires you.”
He concluded, “It’s been a hell of a journey.”
In the clip itself, Foxx added that he “hadn’t been on the stage officially in 18 years” and described how the crowd in “Atlanta made it feel like I ain’t lost a step.”
“Get your popcorn! Let’s go on this ride, let’s listen to this story, let’s laugh, cry if you need to, cuz I know I have,” he said. “But my tears now are tears of joy cuz I ain’t think I was gonna be able to do this.”
