In thefall 2021 issue ofThe Knot Magazine, Dewanrevealed that she and Kazee metyears before they started dating while he was starring in the Broadway musicalOnceand that they had shared a “moment.”

“About nine years ago, I happened to be in New York, so I took my mom to seeOnceon Broadway,” she explained. “We cried our eyes out and fell in love with the show—in particular, the lead actor, Steve Kazee. We thought he was just so talented.”

She added, “And funnily enough, my mom had the biggest crush. She couldn’t stop saying, ‘He’s the cutest, so sensitive, so handsome.’ She just kept going on and on.”

Dewan continued, “It was very quick, but it struck us both. It was a moment. My mom and I told him what a great job he did and how it was such an amazing show, and that was it. We both went off into the night. But I never forgot the moment.”

As it turns out, it was an unforgettable connection for Kazee as well. “Life went on, as it does,” she added. “Many years later, we were in different situations. I was single again, he was single. He messaged me and said something like, ‘Hey, I don’t know if you remember me, but how are you?’ And I was floored. Of course I remembered him. And that moment in 2012.”

Five months after hersplit from Channing Tatum,sources told PEOPLEthat Dewan was dating again, though not in a serious relationship.

“[Jenna] has been on a few dates but doesn’t talk about a boyfriend,” said the source. They added, “She’s in a really great place.”

Nearly one month later, PEOPLE confirmed Dewan was in a relationship with Kazee, with sources saying that the pair had “been dating for a couple [of] months and [Dewan was] really happy.”

The pair were alsophotographed looking cozywhile celebrating Halloween with friends.

He shared some sweet anecdotes about Dewan’s daughter, Everly, crediting her with teaching him “what it means to love and communicate with a child.” Kazee also expressed his excitement about giving Everly another sibling and making their “family a little bigger.”

When she met Kazee, the actress was just starting to feel comfortable dating again following her April 2018split from Channing Tatum.

She added, “I had kind of come to terms with, ‘Okay, I need to accept that I need to start a new life.’ I had no idea what I was looking for, and I was not at all looking for any kind of relationship. It was nothing I was looking for, but it was everything I needed if that makes sense.”
