Julia Fox braved a bold beauty move for the new year.
“I was going for Ace Ventura, like sleazy guy, I don’t know, I’m just into that right now," she told the outlet on the red carpet.
The pet detective’s voluminous quiff goes through multiple phases throughout the 1994 film — from the outlandish hair-horns to a neat, structured swoop. For Fox to achieve any of Ventura’s iconic looks, she had to brave a huge hair change.
“It was a long time coming. I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time,” she said of her new do. “And you know, sometimes in life, you just gotta take the plunge and do it. It’ll grow back, it’s just hair.”
Before this new cut, Fox had been sporting silvery-purple mid-length hair.

Though her new cut might be shocking on anyone else, Fox is no stranger to bold style choices. In April, she shared with PEOPLEher favorite fashion moments— some of which included lots of skin, a ‘body bag’ and a tail.

“I was like, great, I’ll put the veil on and it’ll cover my boob,” she said. “I just happened to have little gloves and the bag, and the bag said, ‘Till death do us part.'”
She added, “Looking at the photo, I do wish that I would’ve maybe made sure the thong wasn’t twisted, but it’s okay.”
One month before sitting down with PEOPLE, Fox sported an imaginative sheer catsuit, complete clear sequins and tinsel springing from her arms, wrists, back and ankles. She didn’t stop there — her hair reflected the subtle silver of the outfit, as did Fox’s makeup. She wore a shiny silver face paint on her cheeks and either side of her forehead.
