Kelly RipaandMark Consuelosare feeling proud after a special weekend visiting their son at college.On a Monday, Feb. 24 episode ofLive with Kelly and Mark, the couple spoke about their recent visit to the University of Michigan to visit their 22-year-old son, Joaquin, sharing that they were able to see a few of his performances during their trip.As they spoke about celebrating their son’s birthday, Ripa and Consuelos said they had “quite a weekend” with Joaquin.“We spent the weekend with him. We had a tale of two completely different experiences,” Ripa continued. “We were in the theater and then I did a quick change in the car out of my theater clothes into my wrestling mom clothes.“Consuelos explained it was senior day at the wrestling gym so they had all the graduating students on the mat.“Also, we were like, ‘We have to go backstage.’ Everything to us was backstage,” Ripa said. “We went backstage at the sports arena, which, I guess, is called the locker room. And then we went on stage…““It’s intense backstage, isn’t it?” Consuelos asked. “Yes, very intense,” Ripa said.“But to go from the theater, for him, then run over to the wrestling arena and go there I just think the two experiences must have been surreal to him,” Consuelos said, with Ripa quipping, " I just made sure he took his makeup off before he went over.“The proud parents said it was “just a great day” for them, getting to see their youngest in action.“Yeah, to do both those programs, I have to brag a little bit. To do the theater program, which is very, very intense for those four years and also Division 1 sports is really, really tough,” Consuelos said.“And going to school,” added Ripa.“Well, yeah, I think he went to school. And to do a sport where you have to cut weight and do all that stuff. I didn’t… there were doubts that we would be here,” Consuelos admitted. “That we would get to this point. But I’m really, really proud of him. So happy birthday, Joaquin, you’re probably sleeping right now. Go to class! Get up and go to class!”
