During an interview onThe Hollywood Reporter’sAwards Chatterpodcastto promote his Oscar-nominated performance inThe Brutalist,Pearce, 57, recalled feeling “scared” of Spaceyduring the making of their 1997 filmL.A. Confidential.

“I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me, no question,” he said, in part.

In avideoshared on X Tuesday, Feb. 18, Spacey, 65, responded to Pearce, telling him to “grow up” and questioning why he was speaking out.

“While I would have preferred not to have to play this out in the media, you obviously have your own reasons for wanting to do exactly that,” Spacey said in the clip.

“We worked together a long time ago. If I did something then that upset you, you could have reached out to me then. We could have had that conversation,” he continued.

“But instead you’ve decided to speak to the press, who are now, of course, coming after me because they would like to know what my response is to the things that you said. You really wanna know what my response is? Grow up.”

Spacey then claimed that Pearce, one year after they finished doingL.A. Confidentialtogether, “flew to Savannah, Georgia, while I was shootingMidnight in the Garden of Good and Eviljust to spend time with me.”

“Did you tell the press that too? Or does that not fit into the victim narrative you have going?” said Spacey.

TheHouse of Cardsactor then said, “I apologize that I didn’t get the message that you don’t like spending time with me.”

In recent years, Spacey has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, which he has denied. He’s been cleared in court of some of the charges andspoken out about losing his home due to debt from legal bills.

He said to Pearce in the video, “Here you are now on a mission some 28 years later, after I’ve been through hell and back, to do what? Just in time to stop the ‘bad guy’? Is that what’s going on here? What took you so long? Did your horse run out of gas? I mean, you wanna have a conversation, I’m happy to do so, any time, any place.”

Spacey added, “I’ve got nothing to hide. But, Guy, you need to grow up. You are not a victim.”

A rep for Pearce did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Back in 2018, Pearce alleged on an Australian talk show that while Spacey was an “amazing” and “incredible” actor, he had a “slightly difficult time” with him, claiming that Spacey is a “handsy guy.”

Shortly after, theMementoactor clarified his remarks in astatement, saying, “I addressed and handled the situation when it took place, hence my regret at making it public now.”

Pearce added that, while makingL.A. Confidential, he downplayed unwanted advances from Spacey as “nothing” for about “five months.”

It wasn’t until other allegations came to light in 2017 when Pearce “broke down and sobbed, and I couldn’t stop.”

“It really dawned on me the impact that had occurred and how I’d sort of brushed it off, and how I shelved it or blocked it out or whatever," said the actor. “That was a really incredible wakeup call.”
