It’s the most wonderful time of the year . . . inKristin Chenoweth’s eyes.

The Tony Award-winning actress, 56, shares that she starts decorating for the holidays early and refuses to feel embarrassed about it.

“First of all, I need to be cheered up this year,” Chenoweth tells PEOPLE. “I need to be happy and I’m going to start decorating early and I’m not going to be ashamed.”

“I’m really excited for this partnership because everybody knows that I am a holiday girl and every year I’m always like, ‘When can we start decorating?’,” the star says. “They’re making a life-size gingerbread house in Madison Square Park in New York City, so I think everyone should come visit me there,” she adds.

While Chenoweth acknowledges thatMariah Careyholds the title of “Queen of Christmas,” she likes to think of herself as the “acting equivalent” to the “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer.

“I’ve done so many Christmas movies -Deck the Halls,12 Men of Christmas,Our Little Secretcoming out withLindsay Lohan,Holidatewhen I played crazy Aunt Susan. The list goes on and on,” the actress recalls.

She adds of the festive season, “I don’t know what it is about this space, but I do know that I radiate true joy around this time.”

As an entertainer, Chenoweth spends many holidays working, something she says she is “grateful for.” “Before Thanksgiving and right after Thanksgiving I have two orchestra gigs, in Kansas City and Atlanta, but I have four days off so I’ll be [home] in Nashville for Thanksgiving,” theDescendantsstar says.

While she won’t be home in Music City for Christmas, that won’t stop her from decorating. “I’m going to be in Arkansas with my husband’s family, but that doesn’t mean that my homes in New York and Nashville aren’t going to be decked out.”

Chenoweth spearheads the holidays in her house but says her husbandJosh Bryant- whom shemarried in 2023- is a reliable second in command. “He is really good for the vibes and he’s really good for meals. I like to bake. He likes to cook,” she says.

While decorating for the holidays, Chenoweth has only one message for those trying to dull her shine: “Bah Humbug.”

Asked her thoughts on anyone policing season pushers, she jokes, “Oh, go away. You can be Bah Humbug but don’t get in the way of my spirit of happiness.”

“I think nowadays our world is so difficult. I don’t need to go there. It’s obvious. We need to be happy," she adds. “We need to look for things that bring us cheer and joy, and if getting ready for Christmas and Hanukkah and all of it makes you happy, go for it.”
