With tears trailing down his face, Dallas Mavericks starKyrie Irvinglimped to the line and made two free throws before he left the game against the Sacramento Kings on Monday, March 3 with an apparent knee injury.
By Tuesday morning, news for Mavs fans had gotten inexplicably worse — Irving, 32, is out for the season after tearing his ACL, ESPN’s Shams Charania broke onX.
The hits keep coming for the franchise after theblockbuster Luka Doncic trade on Feb. 1made heads roll — and set the future of the team, which made it to the NBA Finals last season, on a suddenly uncertain path.

On Monday night, Irving hit the floor awkwardly as he attempted a shot and was fouled. The NBA star laid on the court for a few minutes while the team circled their de facto leader, who has shouldered the load since Doncic’s departure.

Aside from the unprecedented trade, injuries have been the headline for Dallas this season.
Davis has been sidelined since his first game with the Mavs, when he came out strong — scoring 26 points and grabbing 16 rebounds — before he suffered a torn abductor muscle in the game’s third quarter.
In addition, the Mavs have been without centers Daniel Gafford (knee) and Dereck Lively II (ankle) for weeks. Caleb Martin (a new acquisition from the Philadelphia 76ers with a hip injury) has yet to make his debut with the team, while P.J. Washington was out versus the Kings with a recurrent ankle injury.
And to add insult to injury, Mavs backup guard Jaden Hardy suffered a right ankle sprain in the third quarter and left Monday night’s game.
