The pair first made headlines in October 2023, when they were seenspending time togetherat a concert in Los Angeles. Dating rumors about the two quickly spread, but their coupling wasn’t confirmed until later that year. Simultaneously, both Jackson and Nyong’o were going through public breakups.

TheA Quiet Place: Day Oneactress had just ended her relationship with ESPN hostSelema Masekela, while Jackson’s wife of more than three years, Jodie Turner-Smith, had recentlyfiled for divorcedue to “irreconcilable differences.” The two share a daughter, Juno Rose Diana Jackson, who was born in April 2020.

As their relationship continued to grow, Jackson and Nyong’o seemingly received Turner-Smith’s stamp of approval and the couple was spotted packing on the PDA while they were still dating.

A couple of weeks after news broke of Jackson’s divorce, theFringeactor was spotted with Nyong’o at aJanelle Monáeconcert in L.A.

October 19, 2023: Lupita Nyong’o announces split from boyfriend Selema Masekela

The day after the concert, Nyong’oannounced her splitfrom boyfriend and sports commentator Masekela in a lengthy note onInstagram.

Nyong’o revealed that she was “tempted to run into the shadows and hide,” while “experiencing the grip of heartbreak.” But rather, the actress wrote that she was reminding herself “that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love. And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass."

December 5, 2023: Joshua Jackson and Lupita Nyong’o go public with their romance

The twosealed their relationship statuswhen they were photographed walking and holding hands in Joshua Tree, Calif., in December 2023. They both donned comfortable clothing with matching beanies and sunglasses. A close-up shot of the pair shows them smiling at one another while mid-conversation.

Less than 24 hours prior, the couple had beenspotted grocery shoppingat Erewhon Market in L.A., and driving together in a Tesla.

February 26, 2024: Lupita Nyong’o says she’s done talking about her love life publicly

In her digital cover story forPORTER, theUsstar revealed that despite being previously open with fans about her dating history, she wanted to turn a new page in whichher love life is private.

The actress also explained why she chose to share the details of her breakup with Masekela online, saying, “I was living in a lot of pain and heartbreak. I looked at the environment of my social media and thought I don’t want to be a part of this illusion that everything is always coming up roses. Surely there is a lesson for me to learn in this, and I just want to be real about it.”

March 4, 2024: Joshua Jackson celebrates Lupita Nyong’o’s birthday in Mexico

Jackson and Nyong’o took their love international while celebrating the Oscar winner’s 41st birthday in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

“They vacationed in Puerto Vallarta for Lupita’s birthday,” a source told PEOPLE. “They only had eyes for each other all weekend. They kept kissing, laughing and just had the best time.”

During an interview withThe Cut, Turner-Smith admitted that she hopes her exfinds “happiness”with theBlack Pantheractress.

“Good for them,” she said of their blossoming romance, adding, “We need happiness in order to peacefully co-parent.”

Building on that sentiment, Turner-Smith said that her wish is for her and Jackson to have a harmonious relationship with each other’s future partners. “I’m trying to get us to the Gwyneth and Chris Martin level. I truly hope they’re happy and that it benefits us as a family,” she added.

September 23, 2024: Joshua Jackson is spotted with model Nastassja Roberts

Ahead of the premiere of his new series,Doctor Odyssey, Jackson was spottedout with model Nastassja Roberts. Rumors had recently surfaced that he and Nyong’o had split up.

Jackson and Roberts were photographed together in New York City on Sept. 23. For their outing, Jackson wore a plum-colored button-down and matching pants, and Roberts donned a sheer black dress and pumps.

A source also confirmed to PEOPLE that they were seen out and about again on Sept. 25.

October 9, 2024: Lupita Nyong’o confirms she’s single

Though she didn’t share any details about when or why she and Jackson went their separate ways,Nyong’o did confirm that she was singlewhile talking about her cat in an interview withHarper’s Bazaar UK.

“My love for my cat is singular,” she said. “If I’m ever so lucky to be in a romantic relationship again, it’ll be because of him. I was ready to shut that door and lock it and bolt it. He has ensured that my heart remains open.”
