Man Refuses to Share Certain Snacks with His Wife — Causing Tension in Their Marriage: 'I Designate Food as Mine'

In a post onReddit’s “Am I the A——” forum, the man explained that he buys “most of the groceries” in his household and tries to ensure there is constantly a range of seasonal fruit for him and his wife to both enjoy.

Detailing that they are currently purchasing persimmon, the man said he doesn’t like his fruit as firm as his wife does, so he will sometimes leave his to ripen for a few days or weeks.

“I just started eating mine today and offered her a bite,” he continued. “She said, ‘No, I’ll get my own.’ And I said, ‘No way, those are mine. I’ve been saving them and you know how much effort it takes to get them the way I like it, and you don’t even like them that way.’ "

“I designate food as mine,” he said, noting that his wife replied, “All food should be anyone’s to eat if that person wants it at that moment."

He continued, “I, personally, disagree with this. And I live my life leaving her what is hers, whether it’s half of the leftovers or half a piece of cake or whatever.”

“I don’t just eat things. I consider her. And I do my best to make sure she has what she likes around. And if I do accidentally eat the entirety of something she wanted I hear it, believe me," the man added.

“Your wife is greedy and doesn’t care if you buy something to share, but she’s the only one who ever gets any,” one person said.

“Seems like a pretty minor request and she’s not being very reasonable about the whole thing,” another chimed in. “She’s being pretty childish and if she gets this worked up over a persimmon then I don’t even want to imagine what she’s like if something actually serious comes up.”

Other responses to the Reddit thread claimed they had similar issues in their own households.

A commenter said theirs was resolved after discussing boundaries for eating each other’s foods, while a second revealed they had to buy a safe for their favorite treats.

“Tell your wife to go to the store and buy her own. The first two were on you, third time’s the charm. She can get hers,” another advised.
