Man Who Died by Suicide at Reno Casino Is Linked to Murder of 'Cherished Mother'

The man, whose identity has not been made public, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a casino in Reno, Nev., according to astatementfrom the Yuba City Police Department in California. It’s unclear when the man was found.

PEOPLE reached out to the Yuba City Police Department for comment on Thursday, Sept. 5 but did not immediately hear back.

The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed the woman’s identity, adding that Aceves was killed on Aug. 25,ABC 10reports.

“Cathy was a cherished mother, daughter, sister, aunt and best friend,” Marisela Aceves wrote on the fundraising page. “She was a happy, soulful, and spiritual woman who was a guiding light to everyone that had the pleasure of having her in their life.”

The fundraiser has garnered more than $21,000 in donations as of Thursday, Sept. 5.

According to police, the circumstances leading up to the deaths remain under investigation.

“At this time, no other suspects are believed to be involved and there is no ongoing threat to the public,” police said.
