The internet is weighing in onEmerald Fennell’sWuthering Heights— specifically, the reported casting ofMargot RobbieandJacob Elordi.

Per aDeadlineexclusive, Robbie, 34, and Elordi, 27, are set to take on the roles of Catherine and Heathcliff in the latest adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel, which was first published in 1847.

Amid news of Robbie and Elordi’s casting, social media was set ablaze with people offering their opinions. Wroteone user on X(formerly Twitter), “No hate to margot robbie and jacob elordi but neither of them have enough Psychologically Tortured vibes to play cathy and heathcliff. like a wuthering heights adaptation simply needs actors who are weirder.”

Others were more hopeful about the film, like anotherX user who posted, “And what if I said I’m actually excited for the Emerald Fennell Wuthering Heights adaptation.”

“I love that they’re making a new Wuthering Heights film, it’s my favorite book,” onewrote on X. “Casting two white people as Cathy and Heathcliff is uh … Why is this the third movie to cast a white dude as a person of color in an interracial relationship where he’s demonized … ?”

Both actors involved in the project have worked closely with Fennell in recent years. Robbie appeared alongside the filmmaker in last year’sBarbie, in which Fennell made a cameo appearance as the pregnant friend of Robbie’s titular Mattel doll.

Elordi, meanwhile, played the mysterious Felix Catton in the 2023Barry Keoghan-led psychological thrillerSaltburn, which Fennell wrote, directed and co-produced — the latter alongside LuckyChap’s Robbie and Josey McNamara.

Robbie, McNamara, 38, and more were also involved in Fennell’s directorial debutPromising Young Woman(2020), which nabbed the filmmaker a Best Original ScreenplayAcademy Award.
