Mariah Carey Says Son Roc Taught Her How to Play Fortnite and Reveals Future of Her Christmas Shows (Exclusive)

It’s time to defrost the Queen of Christmas — on Fortnite.

After emerging from an ice block that appeared on the Island a few days ago,Mariah Careywill bring her festive spirit — and holiday favorite “All I Want for Christmas Is You” — toWinterfestuntil Jan. 7.

“My Fortnite character is basically me with some different outfits, skins,” the “We Belong Together” artist, 55, tells PEOPLE. “I’m so excited about this. It’s really cute.”

While Carey’s Fotnite alter ego is a non-player character, gamers can “celebrate” with her."

“She runs, and she twirls. She does a little dance from the ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ music video from 2019, and for ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ as a jam track,” explains Carey.

According to the singing icon, her interest in Fortnite stems from her 13-year-old son,Moroccan, a.k.a. “Roc,” whom she shares with ex-husbandNick Cannon.

“I was watching my son play Fortnite for the longest time, and then he taught me how to play,” says Carey. “It’s been cute little excursion figuring out if we were going to be able to do this [Fortnite collaboration] or not.”

After wrapping her Christmas Time Tour on Dec. 17 in Brooklyn, where she signedRihanna’sbreast, the “Heartbreaker” performer also opens up to PEOPLE up about the future of her holiday shows.

“I really love doing it, I just need to schedule it a little bit differently because this year I’d gotten sick just from being out there too long,” says Carey, who was forced to cancel three shows after shecame down with the flu.

Carey, of course, added that her Christmas shows are something she’ll probably “always do.”

The Grammy winner also revealed she isn’t “sick of” Christmas at all — and she’d love to cover “another slow, sad song” for the holidays.

“I’m in Aspen, and right now, ‘Oh, Santa’ is playing over the speakers. And I’m like, ‘I guess I’m not sick of it,'” Carey laughs.
