Mark Robinson, Embattled North Carolina Lt. Governor, Treated for Burns Following Campaign Event: Reports

North Carolina Lt. GovernorMark Robinsonwas reportedly hospitalized after being injured at a campaign event in Mt. Airy, N.C. on Friday, Sept. 27.

The Republican nominee for North Carolina governor, 56, is “currently being treated for burns following an incident at a campaign event in Mt. Airy,” Robinson’s gubernatorial campaign communications director Mike Lonergantold CNNFriday night.

Robinson “is in good spirits, appreciates the outpouring of well wishes, and is excited to return to the campaign trail as scheduled first thing tomorrow morning," Lonergan added.

NewsNationwas the first to break the news of Robinson’s hospitalization.

There were no confirmed reports of what types of burns Robinson sustained or what caused the burns, but Washington Post reporter Amy Gardnertweetedthat Robinson burned his hand after leaning against a truck and that he has been discharged from the hospital and back at home.

On Friday morning, Robinson shared his excitement about hitting the campaign trail.

“Beyond excited to be back on the campaign trail! If you are on the road to visit us, be safe and drive carefully,” the gubernatorial candidate posted on X, formerly Twitter as his state and others in the region bore the brunt of tropical depression Helene.

In his more recent post that went up Friday afternoon, Robinson sharedphotos of heavily flooded areas, writing, “As the images of the devastation in and around Western North Carolina continue to pour in, I cannot help but be overcome with grief for those who are suffering. Loss is never easy, but as a community, we will rally and come back stronger than ever.”

Earlier this week, Robinson’s campaign said it had hired the Binnall Law Group to help investigate aCNN reportthat said Robinsonmade explicit racial and sexual postson a pornography website’s message board between 2008 and 2012, perthe Associated Press. Per CNN, Robinson also previouslymocked school shootingsurvivors.

Several of Robinson’s staffers have quit following the CNN report’s release, including his senior advisor and campaign manager, theAP reports.
