Anthony Davisknows how to leave people wanting more.
In his new campaign with CeraVe, however, Davis' personality takes the spotlight — andthe newly-traded Dallas Mavericks starsays it was “a lot of fun” to film.
“Oh, man, it was amazing,” Davis tells PEOPLE. “I try to keep it very exclusive with who I get to show my personality for, but it was a lot of fun shooting this commercial with CeraVe, and people get to see my other side outside of basketball.”
As for why the NBA champion likes to keep his personality under wraps, Davis wisely says, “The more people see it, the less people will want to see it.”
The campaign with CeraVe puts Davis as the new “head” of the company, highlighting how his height allows him to see other people’s scalps. Having struggled with his own “bad case of dandruff” before, Davis says his wife,Marlen Davis, introduced him to the product before they even reached out about the campaign.
“I ended up using it at the arena after a game one time, and I just liked the way it cleared up the flakes while doing what it’s supposed to do. And low and behold, here comes CeraVe wanting to do a commercial, so I actually told them that story.”

Davis' growth spurt began in high school, he says. “When I was going into my junior year in high school, I grew seven inches in that summer.”
NBA fans may not know that Davis, who won the 2020 NBA championship alongsideLeBron James, has a twin sister, Antoinette, who stands at just 5-foot-5, he says.
“She’s very short, so I’ve been able to see her scalp for a long time,” he jokes.
One of the most challenging aspects for Davis of being nearly seven feet tall is, “honestly, walking through doorways,” he says. “You’ve got to duck all the time, sitting in cars or on planes. The world wasn’t made for tall people.”

Davis is also somewhat superstitious when it comes to game time. He says he “has to” get dressed “the exact same way” each time he suits up for the NBA. “I feel like if I don’t, then my whole energy is off. So, I get dressed the same exact way from start to finish. I have a real routine that I go through in my head as far as a checklist.”
Everything begins on the left, says the Mavericks star. “I put my left shoe on first. I get my left ankle taped first. I put my left leg through my pants and my shorts first. Everything is just left. I don’t know why. It just kind of became the same.”
