McDonald’s Quarter Pounders are returning to the menu after anE. coli outbreakwas traced back to the popular item and the burger was temporarily removed in some states.
In astatementshared on Sunday, Oct. 27, the fast food chain announced the burger is “expected to be available in all restaurants in the coming week,” after beef was ruled out as the source of the outbreak.
“The issue appears to be contained to a particular ingredient and geography, and we remain very confident that any contaminated product related to this outbreak has been removed from our supply chain and is out of all McDonald’s restaurants,” the statement added.

The 900 McDonald’s restaurants that received slivered onions from the Taylor Farms’ Colorado Springs facility will resume serving the burgers without slivered onion, per the statement.

The restaurants are in the states of Colorado, Kansas, Utah, Wyoming, as well as portions of Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
“We are committed to making this right for any customers who have eaten at McDonald’s and suffered an illness as a result of the outbreak,” Piña added in the statement.
The fast food chain has decided to stop sourcing onions from Taylor Farms' Colorado Springs facility “indefinitely,” according to the statement. The facility is continuing to undergo a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigation.

According to theCDC, as of Oct. 24, the number of infections had risen to 75 across 13 states and 22 people have been hospitalized.
PEOPLE previously reported that other fast food chains including Burger King, Taco Bell and KFC hadpulled onionsfrom some of their restaurants amid the outbreak.
