The Shamrock Shake’s return calls for a McDonald’s family reunion.
The once-viralGrimaceinvited Uncle O’Grimacey over from Ireland to celebrate the minty treat’s comeback, which will land in stores nationwide on Monday, Feb. 10.
Shamrock Shakes were first available across the U.S. in 1970 and come back to the fast food chain every spring ahead of St. Patrick’s Day. But this year, in honor of the 50th anniversary of McDonald’s non-profit organization Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Shamrock Shake will be extra lucky. 25 cents from each shake sold will be donated to RMHC from Feb. 10 through March 23.

McDonald’s beloved mascot’s Irish (and appropriately green) relative flew to the States on Tuesday, Feb. 4, ahead of the Shamrock Shake’s annual return.
Like Grimace, Uncle O’Grimacey is an oblong-shaped, fluffy mascot. According to McDonald’s lore, the European relative lives in Sham Rock, Ireland, but visits McDonaldland for family reunions. Despite being introduced to the public in 1975, Grimace hasn’t been seen in McDonald’s campaigns “for decades,” according to a press release.
Grimace had his very own shake in honor of his birthday in the summer of 2023. In June 2023, McDonald’s released Grimace’s Birthday Meal — with a purple milkshake, choice of a Big Mac or 10-piece chicken nuggets and medium fries — for the mascot’s 52nd birthday. Fans could also get the Grimace milkshake (which started an entire TikTok trend) on its own.
